HCMC moves to select investors for 90 km of interregional metro lines
Ho Chi Minh City leaders said the city is speeding up administrative steps to choose investors for about 90 km of interregional metro, alongside other transport projects.

- City is speeding up investor selection for about 90 km of interregional metro
- Target to disburse about VND36 trillion of public investment by year-end
- Other projects include the Ben Thanh-Can Gio railway and Can Gio port
Ho Chi Minh City is speeding up administrative procedures to choose investors for interregional metro projects with a combined length of about 90 kilometres, according to Standing Vice Chairman Nguyen Loc Ha.
He spoke at the Government's September meeting on October 3, where the city also reported third-quarter growth of 9.86 percent. Foreign direct investment was said to exceed US$17.8 billion, or 4.2 times the level in the same period last year.
Other transport-related projects mentioned
The article places the metro plans within a wider set of infrastructure efforts:
- the Can Gio International Transshipment Port project
- the Ben Thanh-Can Gio railway
- the Rach Chiec National Sports Complex, a public-private partnership
- the Can Gio-Vung Tau sea-crossing road project
Spending target
The city aims to disburse roughly VND36 trillion, about US$1.4 billion, of its remaining public investment capital by the end of the year. It says it is focusing on infrastructure that improves transport links between regions.
What it means for residents
The report describes plans and procedures rather than finished works, and it gives no opening dates or station locations. For people living in Thu Duc or Thao Dien, the practical takeaway is limited for now: these are long-term projects, and any effect on commuting would come years after investors are chosen and construction begins. Official announcements will be the reliable place to look for routes and schedules when they are published.
