How to Use the HCMC Metro from Thao Dien: Stations, Fares and Hours
A practical guide to Metro Line 1 for Thao Dien residents: where Thao Dien and An Phu stations are, fares and passes, how to pay, and when trains run.

- Thao Dien Station (L1-06) is on Vo Nguyen Giap Road, five stops from Ben Thanh
- Single trips cost 7,000-20,000 VND in cash, 1,000 VND less cashless
- Pay by bank card, e-wallet, chip ID card, ticket machine or the HURC app
Ho Chi Minh City's first metro line runs right past Thao Dien. Metro Line 1 links Ben Thanh in the city centre with Suoi Tien in the east, and Thao Dien Station sits on Vo Nguyen Giap Road, the first stop after the train crosses the Saigon River. For many residents it is now the easiest way to reach District 1 without sitting in bridge traffic.
This guide covers where to board, how to pay, what it costs and when the trains run. Fares and timetables do change, so check the details in the official HCMC Metro HURC app before you travel.

Getting to Thao Dien Station
Thao Dien Station (code L1-06) is on Vo Nguyen Giap Road, the main road once called Hanoi Highway, in what is now An Khanh Ward. It is an elevated station, so the platform is above street level. Motorbike parking is available under the station, which makes it easy to ride from the inner lanes of Thao Dien and leave the bike there.
If you are walking from the river side of Thao Dien, allow extra time to cross Vo Nguyen Giap Road, which is wide and busy. In the rainy season, some streets in the area flood after heavy rain or high tides; see our Thao Dien flood season guide for the streets to watch.
How much it costs
Single trips on Line 1 cost between 7,000 and 20,000 VND in cash, depending on distance. Paying without cash takes 1,000 VND off, so cashless single trips cost 6,000 to 19,000 VND. The longest trip, Ben Thanh or Opera House to Suoi Tien Terminal, is the 20,000 VND fare.
Passes:
- 1-day pass: 40,000 VND
- 3-day pass: 90,000 VND
- Monthly pass: 300,000 VND
- Monthly student pass: 150,000 VND
Free travel applies to some groups, including people with disabilities, the elderly and children under 6. Check the conditions at the station if you think you qualify.
